But the temptation to do something fun with one of our first mutually unscheduled days in weeks won out over the annual rendezvous with the IRS.
Looking for a quick day trip that would get us back home for dinner... we decided that Lexington/Concord was perfect (it's a pretty 15-minute drive from Cambridge). We explored the Lexington Green (where "the shot heard round the world" was fired), strolled parts of the Minute Man Trail, and ended up in Concord - a town overflowing landmarks from literary pillars of the 1800s including Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Louisa May Alcott.

It almost inspired me to reread The Scarlet Letter for old times' sake. Almost. Little Women is much more tempting.
